it depends. do you have rear pads or shoes . rear pads usually last about as long as front pads, depending on you're driving habits 20,000 to 25,000 miles.if you have pads = disc brakes, you might be able to see the pads through the rims. new pads are generally about the thickness of a deck of cards. once the pads get about as thick as 10 to 15 card thickness, it's time to replace them.

if you have rear shoes = drum brakes, about 80,000. to inspect drum brakes, you will need to remove tire and drum to inspect.new shoes are about as thick as 20 cards replace at 7 card thickness.
