Is it hard to change front brake pads on a 96 Taurus?

I am decently inclined with vehicle maintenance, but I have never done brakes. I do my own oil changes on the vehicle. I have read some internet articles on the process, but do I loosen the bleeder screw then push the caliper piston in? or do I just remove the brake master cylinder cap then push the caliper piston in to make room for the new pads? I have read 2 different processes.

Don't loosen the bleeder, just open the master cylinder. It isn't possible to get it wrong but if you want a step by step with diagrams just to make it a little easier email me at kormanmike@yahoo.com

Just a side note, never open the bleeder unless you are changing the lines or you ran the master empty and sucked air into the line.

And when you are finished remember to pump the brakes until they are hard before taking it out of park.

ummm...brakes aren't something you should learn to do on the internet..especially since you got two completley different answers. if you change your oil wrong, you blow your engine and buy a new one. if you change yer brakes wrong, you could die. and i read somewhere on the internet that a new life costs way more than brake service from a qualified tech. :p
Here's what you do.

1. Remove the two bolts holding the caliper piston on the caliper bracket.

2. Remove the old pads.

3, Put one of the old pads against the inside of the piston (The %26quot;O%26quot; shaped thing), then, using a C clamp, return the piston to where it was.

4. Install the new pads, referring to the old ones for correct positioning

5. Put the caliper piston back on the bracket, put the bolts in by hand first, then zip em up and maker sure the piston is secure.

6. Put the wheels back on the car, start the car while the parking brake is on and pump the brake pedal until the pedal is hard.

Easy as pie.
