Problem changing brake pads on 99 Ford Tauras SE?

Well I just bought this 1999 Ford Tauras SE on ebay for $2,200. It needed its brak pads replaced so I found a couple buddies that said they knew what they were doing and they did to some extent but now that everything is put back together the brakes do not work and there is a hissing noise coming from the engine. I do not think we bled the lines correctly as we did not pump the brakes while we were doing it. We just kind of let it pour out. Perhaps there is an air bubble somewhere in the brake lines? I don't know much about this and I was wondering if anyone on here did and could help me out.

I suspect that the hissing noise is a vacuum leak that may be related to the vacuum booster for your brakes. Look for a disconnected or broken vacuum line. A three foot long piece of garden hose with one end held up to your ear and the other end moved around the engine compartment will help to discover the leak. A soft or no brake pedal is a strong indication that there is air in the system and will require bleeding of the brakes. Start with the wheel furthest away from the master cylinder and move towards the master. One person pumps the brakes and one releases the bleeder. Three pumps of the pedal and hold, open bleeder and then close it, repeat until solid fluid comes out. Be sure to monitor the fluid level during this procedure so as not to allow air to get back into the system. Good Luck
