If i am changing the front brake pads and compress piston do i have to bleed the brakes?

I am changing the front brake pads only on a 2001 jetta vr6. i only unbolt the caliper from the rotor , compress the piston put the new pads on and bolt the caliper back on and done. if i do it this way is there any reason i would have to bleed them if im not going to unbolt the brake line with the fluid in it. i don't see any way air could get in the lines. i know to keep the brake fluid from going low because if it does they all 4 have to be bled, and the way i am compression the pistons i am aware that the brake fluid could top off and overflow.

Any help greatly appreciated.

No, you do not need to bleed the brakes. And no, opening the MC will not do any damage.

There is not introduction of air into the system.

I always unscrew the cap when compressing the pistons; makes it easier for me.

compressing the piston without opening the bleeder valve can cause damage to ABS modules. Your best bet is to open the bleeder valve on the calipers and then compress the piston. Yes it will shoot fluid out of the bleeder but a little mess and the cost of fluid is a lot cheaper than a new ABS module.
Do not bleed them, don't need to. just be aware that the brake pedal will go to the floor at first until you pump them up once you're done
You should bleed the brakes every couple of years to flush out gunk and moisture, which can corrode the brake lines, pistons and clog passages. Open the bleeder nipples like the other guy says, so you don't risk wrecking the ABS.
You should bleed them, to get fresh brake fluid into the caliper. When brakes get hot, it burns the fluid.
You do NOT need to bleed the brakes, but be aware that your car requires that the brake fluid be CHANGED every 3-4 years because it SPOILS. It is synthetic vegetable oil base. READ you owner's manual. If you don't change it and use genuine VW/Audi brake fluid, other parts of your expensive brake system will begin to fail with time!! You can use Girling DOT4 fluid or Porsche racing brake fluid. THAT is all!!! If you would actually READ your owner's manual you wil get a clearer picture. Do NOT ignore the little picture on the top of your master cylinder and brake fluid cap!!! You have a GREAT car, why not do right by it!!??
